The Pit Guy

Well folks, today I re-watched How I Met Your Mother Season 8 Episode 11/12 “The Final Page”  which is one of my favourite episode in Season 8. Not only because Robin and Barney were engaged in this episode, but there’s a good moral value, yeah, Pit Guy
The main point of this episode revolves around the fact that Ted’s new skyscraper is opening. He reminisces on his first, more influential architecture teacher. Apparently this guy was like that coach who tells the future football player that they’re never going to make it in the team. Ted sending his teacher an invitation to the opening of his building. Marshall points out that Ted has been obsessing over this teacher for a long time, and Lily explains that the professor is Ted’s “pit guy.”
Apparently a pit guy is someone that one hates so much that they’re willing to toss them into a pit in the basement, like the movie, Silence of the Lambs. Robin says that she doesn’t have a pit guy, but they remind her about her obsession of Patrice. Robin says that she’s finished being obsessed and they talk about other pit guys, including someone Lily and Marshall knew in college who still obsesses over them.
Marshall: “Totally, he’s Ted’s pit guy”
Ted: “How dare you? .. and what is that?”
Lily: “A pit guy is someone you’ve been obsessed with for so long that it has driven you crazy enough to throw him in a pit in your basement like in “The Silence of the Lambs”
………………..
Then, when Robin at her office, Sandy (Robin's Boss) comes into Robin’s office to explain that it’s time for year end reviews. Robin says that she doesn’t fire people for unprofessional reasons, but Patrice comes in immediately after that and Robin looks devious…
Ted: “The thing about pit people, sometimes you don’t even know you have them ’til you have the chance to push them in.”
………………..
Robin has an awkward meeting with Patrice, she then immediately fires Patrice. Patrice is naturally baffled and asks Robin what it’s really about. Robin breaks down and explains how much pain she’s been feeling over Barney being in a relationship with Patrice. In the end, Patrice does not leave World Wide News.
Meanwhile, Ted confronts the professor and learn that he still doesn’t like Ted’s architecture design. Just as he’s about to make a giant fool out of himself involving a model of his building, Ted has a realization of his own: everyone wants to trap someone in a pit, but they only trap themselves. Only they can let themselves out of that pit by breaking their obsession. So the gang gets ready to go home.
Ted: “But, sometimes in  life you’ll make a pit for someone in your mind but ultimately the only person in that pit is yourself……
“…….. which means there’s only one person who can let you out of the pit. You, yourself.”

About my pit guy, mine was……… well, that was 4 years ago. And I promised myself to leave out of it. Moved on, just like Ted.
Because, in the end we will move on and let them go. Everyone.
So, did you guys still have your own pit guy? or……. who’s your pit guy right now?
